Windfarm Specialists

RED Group Ltd are specialists in the development and management of onshore windfarms.

Welcome to RED Group

RED Group specialises in the development and management of onshore wind farms. RED Group was in the vanguard of companies working with landowners in the UK to identify suitable sites for wind turbine installations.

Founded by David Taylor in 2002, the company has worked with specialist professionals, local communities and investors, seeking out and appraising potential sites to take through the planning process.

Having led and taken part in the assessment and successful construction of several wind farm sites with a range of joint venture companies, RED Group has now evolved to look after its renewable energy interests.

Two outstanding examples of wind farms where RED Group was involved with project development are Lissett Airfield and Glenkerie, now both owned and operated by Nadara Limited.

Lissett Airfield wind farm is situated close to the village of Lissett in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Lissett was mentioned in the Domesday book, and was the base of the Royal Air Force’s 158 Squadron during the Second World War. Over the course of two years, the squadron completed 250 missions in Halifax bombers, flying from the airfield where the wind farm is now sited, with the loss of 144 aircraft and 851 airmen.

Working with the 158 Squadron Association, a memorial sculpture was erected by the wind farm company, featuring 7 airmen returning from a sortie. It bears the names of the 851 airmen lost during the war, etched into the steel. The wind turbines on the site are also named after aircraft in the squadron. The wind farm development was dubbed “Propellers back at Lissett”.

Glenkerie Airfield Windfarm

  • Number of turbines: 11
  • Turbine type: Vestas V80, 2000kW
  • Hub height: 60m and 80m
  • Blade length: 39m

Glenkerie wind farm is located in Scotland’s Southern Uplands, north-west of the village of Tweedsmuir.

The wind farm is situated on one side of a glen, as part of a prize-winning sheep hill farm. The land is mostly heather moorland and rough pasture, and the site elevation varies between 230m to 530m above sea level.

Special care was taken to limit disturbance to the sensitive local ecology, with construction being limited to only certain periods of the year due to nearby populations of Atlantic salmon, lampreys and otter.
